Care and Cleaning Guides

Cleaning and maintaining your new floor is crucial to keep it looking its best and ensuring your valuable investment lasts well into the future.

While calling in a professional cleaner can be extremely beneficial for an occasional deep clean, being able to correctly care for your flooring surface yourself will save you a considerable amount of money in the long run.

Carpet is durable and resilient, and a lot easier to clean than you might think. At Carpet Call our quality carpet products are designed to hold up against heavy wear and traffic, and clean easily when the correct cleaning products and methods are used.

Your new carpet simply requires a regular vacuum once or twice a week, (higher traffic area’s would benefit from a vacuum at least twice a week) The quick removal of spills as soon as they occur to prevent staining, and a deep steam clean every 1-2 years. Your cleaning program will vary depending on the amount of foot traffic your carpet is exposed to every day, so check with your Carpet Call flooring expert if you’re not sure how often you should be cleaning your carpet.

Hard Flooring is very easy to keep clean, and you can significantly prolong the life and appearance of your hard flooring by making a few simple adjustments to your room and furniture. For example, placing doormats at entryways and protective pads underneath the legs of your heavy furniture will prevent dragging across the floor and scratching the surface.

Regular sweeping and a light mop will keep your floor looking great and  clean of marks and stains, while getting rid of any dirty particles that could scratch your floor. Some timber floors could also benefit from the occasional polish every 6-18 months. This will keep it looking shiny and new for longer. (Please check if your floor can be polished first with the manufacturer.) The most important thing to remember with your hard flooring is to avoid excessive amounts of water and sunlight, which can age and damage your floor.

Vinyl Flooring is one of the easiest types of flooring surface to care for, as most are finished and sealed with a protective coating which naturally resists moisture and deep stains. A regular sweep or vacuum will keep it dust- and dirt-free, and mopping your vinyl floor with lukewarm water will easily remove spills.

For a deeper clean, choose recommended cleaning products without ammonia, strong chemicals or animal fat such as Loba Care Cleaner, which won’t affect or damage the protective sealer.

Laminate Flooring is a sturdy and hard-wearing surface which requires very little maintenance. Like with hard flooring, placing doormats at entryways, carpet runners in hallways, and non-rubber protective pads underneath your furniture will go a long way to protecting your floor and simplifying your cleaning routine.

Keeping your indoor humidity levels constant at about 50-65% relative humidity, choosing brooms and vacuum attachments with soft bristles. If mopping is required we recommend the use of the Loba cleaning kit which will help to maintain the high quality and value of your new laminate floor.

Rugs will vary in their care and cleaning requirements depending on the material they are made from, and how much wear and traffic they are exposed to. In general however, it is vital that you vacuum your rug regularly to remove dirt, dust and other loose particles, and keep it out of direct sunlight to avoid fading and ageing.

For badly soiled or very dirty rugs, it is highly recommended that you have it professionally cleaned as they cannot be washed with domestic cleaning products and should be dry-cleaned only.
