Colour Trends for a Warming Winter at Home

As the chilly weather starts to hit, it’s the perfect time to think about making your home cosy and inviting with good heating, warm lighting and soft textiles in rich colours. To update your lounge or bedroom this season, consider cushions, rugs and throws in some of these gorgeous on-trend hues.

Burgundy

Burgundy is definitely the ‘in’ shade for 2015, so much so that colour company Pantone named its direct relative, Marsala, colour of the year. This exotic-sounding hue is a deep, dusky red shade that’s warming, evocative and very classy. Burgundy and similar shades of red wine and marsala work equally well in either small or large areas. If you’re feeling adventurous, you might repaint a lounge room wall. Looking for something smaller? Opt for a rug and a throw to create a space that’s warm and inviting.

Navy

While teal is still enjoying a certain status in hip hotels and restaurants, navy is the hottest blue tone for this season. Navy is a classic, rich colour that easily adds distinction to even the most casual of rooms. It’s versatile too, able to blend into all manner of design styles, from beach house to French provincial and Hamptons to hippy. Best of all, navy works equally well with white, and both light and dark timbers. To enhance any winter room, consider a modern or shag rug in deep blue, some scatter cushions, offset with a burgundy throw – or accessories in another favourite in-season tone, yellow or orange.

Yellow and Orange

For perfect, warming accents, consider yellow or orange. Yellow and orange are hot colours for 2015, and a clock, bowl, lamp, cushions or even feature wall in these friendly shades will easily add joy, warmth and brightness to any room.
