What to Consider When Choosing Bathroom Blinds

Here’s what to consider when buying blinds for the bathroom.

WHY BLINDS?

Blinds are an ideal choice for the bathroom, offering privacy as well as light management. When picking the best type of blinds for bathroom, your choice of material will be key in determining both the look and the longevity of your blinds.

Let’s take a look at some of the pros and cons for different blind types with regards to water-resistance and beyond.

VENETIAN BLINDS

Venetian blinds offer a lot of flexibility when it comes to both aesthetics and light control. Aluminium venetian blinds are a great fit for bathrooms, as they are mould and mildew resistant, as well as being capable of handling humidity.

At Carpet Call, our Visionwood Venetians give you the look of wooden blinds but with water-resistant properties that make them well-suited to wet environments such as the bathroom. Aluminium blinds have a sleek, clean finish for the bathroom, not drawing too much attention visually for a less cluttered bathroom design.

While we also offer wooden blinds, these are not generally recommended for bathrooms, as they can become warped or bloated over time when exposed to dampness and humidity.

  • Venetian blind maintenance

To keep your Venetian blinds in good condition, dust or vacuum across the top of the slats often. You can also brush the blinds – just be sure to brush downwards to avoid unhooking the slats.

You spot clean any marks on the blinds with an all-purpose cleaning product sprayed onto a dry cloth, or a rubber sponge. For a more thorough wash, metal blinds should be removed first and then laid flat to dry.

ROLLER BLINDS

Another great option for bathroom window furnishings are roller blinds. Providing privacy and UV protection, roller blinds are easy-to-use, and come in a wide range of materials and colours to suit any bathroom design.

Be sure to talk to the team at Carpet Call about the best options for water-resistant roller blind materials and the look you’d like to achieve in your bathroom. Unlike Venetians and vertical blinds, roller blinds have a more minimalist aesthetic, sitting flush against your window frames.

Whether you want a bolder colour to make a statement, or a more light-filtering shade that makes the most of the natural light while still providing privacy, the choice is yours!

  • Roller blind maintenance

To clean your roller blinds, simply vacuum the surface to remove any dust then use a soft brush or sponge soaked in warm detergent water. Rinse with clean water and leave the blind down to fully dry.

If you are unsure about how to clean your roller blinds, check out our blinds care guide or get in touch with your local Carpet Call store.

VERTICAL BLINDS

For larger windows, vertical blinds can offer extra privacy with their striking linear design feature. Easy to control both in terms of light and privacy, vertical blinds can be neatly pushed aside when you don’t need them.

Vertical blinds can also provide extra insulation against the cold, meaning your bathroom will be nice and toasty in winter. When shopping for vertical blinds for the bathroom, be sure to let our team know that you need a water-resistant material.

  • Vertical blind maintenance

Never soak vertical blinds or use hot water to clean them. Dusting your vertical blinds often will help to minimise your cleaning efforts. While you can clean blinds in situ, sometimes it is easier to remove the blinds first prior to cleaning.
